Welcome to my website!
Music. I love music. It is my life. Between teaching music in school, being a church musician, and directing a community choir, my life is totally engrossed in music, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Conducting choirs is my passion. I love conducting choirs -- any age, any type or any size. I am currently involved in conducting choirs at three different levels -- I direct a middle school choir and a high school choir; I direct a church choir; and I conduct a community choir. I am so fortunate to be involved at all of these levels. Each group is different, but each group works toward the same goal -- to create beautiful music.
In March of this year, I was selected as the Artistic Director of the Greenfield Community Choir in Greenfield, IN. Oh, what fun it has been! There are approximately 50 people in the ensemble, and they come from all levels of education and all walks of life. It has been great to get to know all of them.
One of the great things about singing in a choir is that, no matter how educated you are or where you are in your life, you can be a part of a group that has a common goal -- to create beautiful music. No matter who you are, you are a valued member of the ensemble. Your voice matters.
The beauty of singing in a choir is that all of these individual voices -- some low, some high, some nasal, some gravelly, some good, some not so good -- can blend together into one unified sound. That beautiful sound can touch the hearts of the listeners. It can send them soaring to places that nothing else can. It can reach into their souls and lift them to unimaginable places.
I am so fortunate to be the one who is honored to stand in front of the group and help them reach heights that even they couldn't imagine. I take each of these individual voices and meld them together into one glorious sound. It is my responsibility to read the music and then to recreate it in the air with my gestures so that my singers know what to do and when to do it. I am responsible for their success or their failure, and it is my quest to succeed every time.
I love my singers. I love the way they lift my spirits when I am down. I love the way they laugh with me and cry with me. I love the way they speak to my heart when they sing. I love the way they entrust me with their talent. I love the way we bind our hearts and voices together into one. For a few glorious moments, we forget all else and focus on making beautiful and breathtaking music.
If you love singing but have never sung in a choir, please consider joining one. You will bind together with other ordinary people just like yourself and work together toward a common goal. It will truly be one of the best decisions you have made in your entire life.
